Troy Deeney believes Manchester United need a more “ready” defender than Max Kilman in the summer transfer window.

But the Watford legend Troy Deeney believes that while he loves what Kilman is doing for Wolves, he does not believe the 26-year-old is the answer for Man United.

“I like Max Kilman,” he said, smiling. “I just think there's a level that people can't possibly get to. I could be wrong!”

Deeney then continued to expand on his argument by pointing out one of Man United's existing players who took a similar step by signing for the Red Devils: Harry Maguire.

He continued: “Look what happened with Harry Maguire, really good at Leicester, great player, all that. Man United, what they're trying to get at is having a high line and chasing people, and you'll be very comfortable with the ball.

“Playing for Wolves and playing for Man United are two different things, so if you say there is a short list, hopefully he will be number five and there are four ready to choose from.

“But if he gets it, fair play to the boy! Same as Harry. He's got his move and he's done it very well.”

Kilman has been a key player in Gary O'Neil's side as Wolves fight for a European place.

He has made 36 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and registering one assist.
