According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United remain open to re-signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat this summer.
The Moroccan star spent last season on loan at the Red Devils. He made 30 appearances for Manchester United and played a key role in the FA Cup conquer Manchester City at Wembley Stadium. United have decided not to activate the purchase option for him 17 million poundsbut the club does not rule out negotiating new terms with Fiorentina.
Speaking to Givemesport, Roman saying: “Sofyan Amrabat remains another option they have on their list. The conditions with Fiorentina need to be changed because the purchase option clause will not be activated. The player is eager to return to Manchester United, but it depends on the two clubs..”
Possible agreement
Amrabat had a good end to the 2023/24 season with the Red Devils. He began to find his place in the Premier league in May and got the go-ahead Casemiro in the number 6 spot for the FA Cup final. Despite this, United have opted not to renew his contract with the clause, but he could return with a new offer.
The Red Devils are currently focused on securing Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, but a deal does not seem easy given the French champions' high demands. PSG are close to signing Joao Neves from Benfica, but are waiting £59 million for Ugarte.
United could try to sign him on loan with an option to buy. If PSG reject the proposal, United could once again focus on Amrabat, who appears to be interested in returning to the club. Amrabat, who was praised as “extraordinary' of manager Luis Enrique, could be available for a much smaller fee this summer.
His contract with Fiorentina expires in June next year and the Serie A side could be forced to sell him for a bargain price. United should have the advantage over other suitors as the Moroccan ace is eyeing a return to play. It remains to be seen whether United will consider signing both Ugarte and Amrabat.
