manchester united They have reportedly shown interest in signing AC Milan star Theo Hernandez, according to transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The left-back position has been a point of concern for the Red Devils of late due to injury problems for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. Shaw has not played for United since February before returning last weekend against Ipswich Town in the first division.
Malacia is also close to returning to action and was named in the matchday squad against Kieran McKenna's side for the first time since the final game of the 2022/23 season.
Ruben Amorim decided to start Diogo Dalot in the LWB position in his first game as Man Utd manager last weekend, but the former FC Porto star was unable to show his best in this position as he feels more comfortable in the opposite side.
The Portuguese coach likes to deploy a three-back system and uses the full-back, so he needs an offensive-minded full-back. Fabrizio Romano has recently revealed that Amorim wants to strengthen LWB's position and United are willing to fulfill their new manager's wish in January or next summer.
Hernandez to Manchester United
writing in unknown, Plettenberg have reported that Man Utd have already started working on a deal to sign a new left defender and Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies is their top target.
The player's current contract with the Bavarian club will expire at the end of this season, however, signing him would be complicated as he has other potential suitors such as real Madrid.
So, Man Utd have alternative options on their wish list with Hernandez among them and Amorim's team have been monitoring his current situation at AC Milan before making a possible decision. The player's current contract will expire in less than two years.
The 27-year-old, valued at around £50 million per Transfer market – has been one of the best LBs in Serie A in recent years and helped his team win the Scudetto a few years ago. He is excellent in attack and also efficient in defensive contributions.
Therefore, the Frenchman has the necessary attributes to be the perfect player in Amorim's system. However, it will be interesting to see if the record Premier League champions finally manage to secure his service to bolster their defence.
