Manchester City
Ederson He did nothing to stop Gabriel's header at his far post and was a spectator throughout the second half. 5
Kyle Walker A torrid start. The right-back allowed Martinelli to create Arsenal's first from his flank. He then lost Gabriel, his designated man, for the Gunners' second. 3
Ruben Dias Booked and bewildered by Arsenal's muscularity, John Stones' pure footballing ability might have been a better option, but he only came on with 15 minutes to go before scoring. 5
Manuel Akanji Like Dias, the Swiss was unable to stop Arsenal's aerial threat from corners, but did not add up when City's attack took on Arsenal's defence in the second half. 5
Josko Gvardiol A goal threat. City's inverted full-back made a run into the Gunners' box before the break but should have helped Walker stop Gabriel's goal. 7
Rodri An afternoon to forget. He fell to the ground two seconds after contact with Kai Havertz. He then limped off with what appeared to be a knee problem after running onto the ball with Thomas Partey. 5
Savinho Calafiori completely deceived with a turn inside that created space for the pass that sent Haaland for the opener. 7
Bernardo Silva The Portuguese was unable to replicate Kevin De Bruyne's devilry from midfield but, like his team-mates, he refused to give up.
Ilkay Gündogan He wasted a close-range volley which then hit the post and, uncharacteristically for him, had barely been a factor until he linked up with Jack Grealish for Stones' goal. 7
Jeremy Doku Preferred over Grealish, he was silenced before the interval and although he cheered up, he was eventually taken off. 6
Erling Haaland He ended a one-game “drought” with his typical charge and bull finish, but his colleagues failed to open the door again for a new scoring opportunity. 8

Jack Grealish (for Savinho 79) Vital cross that led to Stones' finish. 7
Juan Piedras (to Walker, 79) You will savor it for a long time His last-minute equaliser. 7
Arsenal
David Raya He made three good saves in the second half from Gvardiol (twice) and Haaland, but could the Spaniard have guessed where the No9 would direct his shot (to the goalkeeper's left)? 7
Jurriën Woods Doku was mostly stifled, although City's left winger occasionally got the better of him. 7
Guillermo Saliba Like Gabriel, he created space for Haaland to break through and score. After this, he was in the mood for a heroic performance in the second half. 7
Gabriel Magalhães Too wide for Haaland's opener, but a powerful header came very close to giving his side a famous 2-1 win and he was part of Arsenal's resilience throughout. 8
Ricardo Calafiori Elegant. Decorated to Premier League He made his debut with a spectacular equaliser and enjoyed a thrilling battle with Savinho. 8
Bukayo Saka Captain of the day, his role was mainly defensive, taking the corner that fell softly on Gabriel's head for the second goal. He was sacrificed at half-time after Trossard was sent off. 7
Declan Rice The midfielder, a model of concentration, worked bravely for his team, making City's late goal particularly bitter. 7
Thomas Partey Well pampered, he and Rice yelled to their teammates when to push and when to back off and fought to the end. 7
Gabriel Martinelli Impressed. He set up Calafiori for his wonderful goal and counter-attacked whenever necessary to support the team's resistance when City attacked them. 7
Kai Havertz He was often left alone as Trossard made his way onto the pitch. He was part of the all-player rally to support the defence after the Belgian was shown a red card. 7
Leandro Trossard Two (avoidable) yellow cards earned him a sending off at the end of the first half. Before this, as one of the two false 9s, his aggression had helped Arsenal to press City. 2
