Ederson is a major doubt for Manchester City’s crunch title clash with Arsenal at the end of the month after sustaining a thigh injury on Sunday.
Mail Sport understands that the goalkeeper could miss up to four weeks with the muscle problem, putting his participation home games against the Gunners on March 31 and Aston Villa three days later in jeopardy.
Ederson will pull out of the Brazil squad ahead of the eye-catching friendlies with England at Wembley and then Spain at the Bernabeu.
Pep Guardiola admitted that the issue didn’t look good in the immediate aftermath of City’s pulsating 1-1 draw at Anfield and will now anxiously wait on the 30-year-old’s progress over the coming weeks.
Ederson has already started his rehabilitation process, with Stefan Ortega set to deputise in his place.

Ortega came on in the 56th-minute after Ederson had collided with Darwin Nunez in a failed attempt to rectify Nathan Ake’s errant back pass.
The German was always in line to face Newcastle United in the FA Cup on Saturday after impressing during his 24 appearances for the club. Guardiola gave him the gloves for last year’s FA Cup final against Manchester United, the second trophy of their historic Treble.
City rebuffed interest from Bayern Munich last summer. Ortega wants to be a No 1 and, with little over a year on his current contract, City need to make a decision on his future.
‘I was ready at Liverpool like always,’ Ortega said. ‘It was a special moment to come on in this big game and the whole world watching. It was a nice feeling.
‘I just thought to do my job. I do it every day in training and it was about doing the same. I enjoyed every second. It’s nothing new what came – I was ready and prepared.
‘It was a solid performance. A tough game – it’s not easy to play against Liverpool, especially there. One point is good – both teams had chances to win but in the end it was even.’
