Manchester City’s Yan Couto in advanced talks to join Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund are in advanced talks to sign defender Yan Couto from Manchester City with a deal expected to be concluded in the coming days.

The 22-year-old Brazil international is valued by City — for whom he has not made a first-team appearance — at €30million (£25.3m; $32.6m), but an agreement is expected to be reached at a lower price.

If everything goes to plan, the right-back is expected to travel to Dortmund to finalise the transfer and sign his contract.

Couto joined City from Brazilian club Coritiba in 2020 on a five-year contract but he has spent each of the following four seasons away from the club on loan.

The right-back has spent three seasons, including each of the last two, at Girona — who are part of the City Football Group — and played for Portuguese club Braga in the 2021-22 campaign.

Couto has never made a first-team appearance for City with his only inclusion in a matchday squad being as an unused substitute in the 2021 Community Shield defeat to Leicester City.

The defender has been capped four times by Brazil and while he was included in the nation’s squad for this summer’s Copa America, he did not feature at the tournament.

Dortmund, who were defeated in last season’s Champions League final, have already completed deals to sign Stuttgart pair Waldermar Anton and Serhou Guirassy this summer.
