More from Fernandes, speaking to Sky Sports: “Obviously the job is not done yet. We still have one Premier League game left and then the most important game of the season, the FA Cup final.
“It has been a tough season. The table shows it and we are all aware of it. The fans have been incredible and supported us throughout the season. We all appreciate what you have been doing for us.
“We want to do it better and different and they (the fans) deserve it.
“They have been incredible for us and we had to do something, we have been trying but the results do not show it. We have been working hard and everyone has given their best, it is not enough and we have to do more.
“We still have two games left and we have to finish in the best way.
“There is no captain's performance, it is a team performance.
“I am no different from anyone just because I have the armband. I always do my best and we always do the best we can for the Club; no one hides the fact that we play for a great Club and we have to raise our standards in every game.”
Fernandes on his future
Before being dragged away by Ten Hag, he said: “I will be here until the club wants me and the club wants me to be part of the future. If for some reason they don't want me, then I will go.”
