Manchester United are a team full of prima donnas: they should strive to be more like Brentford.

Manchester United should get rid of their prima donna squad and consider a Brentford-style team rebuild.

That is the opinion of the singer-songwriter and lifelong United fan Olly Murswho joined the talkSPORT appointee panel manchester united show, inner devils.

Ruben Amorim has quickly seen the magnitude of the task at hand as he attempts to reverse United's bad luck.

The new coach's honeymoon Ruben Amorim turned out to be nothing more than a flash in the pan after drawing at Ipswich and then beating Bodo/Glimt and Everton in their first three games.

But consecutive Premier League defeats against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest It has left the club in 13th place in the standings.

Next up for United is Thursday's Europa League trip to Viktoria Plzen before Sunday's mammoth Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium.

And Murs left nothing on the table when he spoke about United's current difficult situation.

He even suggested that the 20-time Premier League champions should aim to form a competent team like Thomas Frank has done in Brentford.

The 2009 X Factor runner-up says he hopes Amorim will take a similar approach to his time at Sporting Lisbon, preferring collective rather than individual stars.

He said: “I'm at a stage where I think: would I prefer a Brentford team to this team?

“Would you prefer a team that works hard as a team?”

Murs added: “Sporting worked as a team, there are no big stars.

“I just think we have too many people and too many prima donnas. Let's keep our fingers crossed that (Amorim) stops buying names, buys players for the squad.

“We are not what we used to be. We need to form a team that runs and works for the team. “We just don’t have that right now.”

A bright start to Amorim's reign leaves fans hopeful that United are finally on the right path.

However, the Red Devils quickly fell back into bad habits, showing their weaknesses, especially in set pieces against Arsenal and Forest.

“We just don't do the basics right,” says Murs. “We don't work hard enough. We are always waiting for individual moments.

“Again on the weekend we all say: 'Come on Amad (Diallo), do something.'

“(Marcus) Rashford, let's not even go there with him, but can anyone do something?”

United's busy schedule sees them play eight games in four competitions over the busy Christmas and New Year period.

The games come quickly for Amorim with trips to Tottenham and Liverpool ahead of an intriguing FA Cup third round clash at Arsenal on January 12.

United are the current champions, however Murs believes Amorim should prioritize League duties and qualifying for the Champions League through the Europa League rather than defending the FA Cup.

“I hope in the FA Cup and maybe some Manchester United fans think I'm stupid here,” he added.

“We played Arsenal in the third round.

“I would prefer him to spend two weeks with the boys and instead rotate the team (against Arsenal) and concentrate on getting a decent position in the league and the Europa League.

Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy on whether Manchester United should sell Marcus Rashford

“If you can get time on the training pitch with these guys, give them a rest.

“Recovering and getting the right players back, that would be better for us and for him.”
