Manchester United are toxic from top to bottom and I am ashamed of how they treated Erik ten Hag

Mark Goldbridge is “embarrassed” by the way Manchester United have “hung Erik ten Hag out to dry.”

On the eve of Saturday's FA Cup final against Manchester City, reports emerged stating that the club has already decided to part ways with the Dutch coach regardless of the result against Pep Guardiola's team.

While it hasn't been a memorable season for the Red Devils so far, they have a chance to make it happen if they beat their City rivals at Wembley.

And yet, his preparation for the game has been shaken by reports swirling about Ten Hag's future.

After reports emerged of Ten Hag's uncertain future beyond the FA Cup final, Goldbridge decided The united stance YouTube channel to respond.

It's fair to say he wasn't happy and claimed the club staff weren't happy either.

“It's Friday afternoon before the FA Cup final and I can barely speak when I say Erik ten Hag Apparently, they will fire him,” he said. “There are people who leak things within the club that he will leave no matter what happens.

“I tweeted 'Parting ways' a few hours ago because this is coming from people within the club. I've heard things, I know other people have heard things and clearly the mainstream media is hearing things too.

“This is not leaking from agents or managers who want the job, this is leaking from people within manchester united and it's leaking because they're angry. These people are still angry about how the club is run!

“One of the big problems for Manchester United over the last decade is that we have lost our identity, we have lost our morality, we have become toxic, our reputation has been tarnished and we have become a laughingstock.

“I think today we saw that again. We may have new partial owners, but we continue to be drawn into the same clandestine and unappealing activities.

“I think the club from top to bottom is still toxic. I'm embarrassed and I think it's disgusting. It's a disgusting way to treat people.

“In the end, the power of the players wins again. Rinse and repeat. It's the cycle again, when everything goes wrong and there are so many people to blame, one person gets the blame and everyone else gets away with it.

“I'm tired of this! You can fire Ten Hag, but what really bothers me is the amount of blame that falls on him.”

Goldbridge has been a big advocate of giving Ten Hag a chance to do well after a campaign marred by injuries to key players and off-field drama surrounding his ownership.

However, he admits that hope now seems highly unlikely and discusses who could replace the Dutchman on the Old Trafford bench, amid links with Mauricio Pochettino fired from Chelsea and recently promoted Ipswich boss Keiran McKenna – who worked as a coach at United under José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Speaking on Friday, he told talkSPORT: “I have said many times that I really want and hope Manchester United keep Erik ten Hag, although I am becoming less and less sure of that.

“Would you want Pochettino at Man United? I would probably choose him over Kieran McKenna because I think Pochettino is a traditional manager and McKenna is still untested.

“There seems to be an obsession that clubs have at the moment with coaches under the age of 40. “I must have missed the memo on why football clubs need a coach under the age of 40. Bayern Munich hopes that Vincent Kompany will be their coach over the next 30 years? I don't understand.

“For Chelsea, I don't think going from Pochettino to McKenna or De Zerbi is a step forward, I think it's a step towards the owners appointing a manager who fits into their system and who they can control, and we're looking at that.” More and more in football.

“I think football is changing before our eyes, we see it all the time, clubs want to have a committee that is in charge of the football aspect, transfers, the rest, and they want a head coach who is simply a coach.

“We have seen it with Chelsea and we are seeing it with Bayern Munich. “I was surprised that Chelsea parted ways with Pochettino, but I wasn't that surprised either because that seems to be the way this strange modern phenomenon of football by committee is developing.”

He added on The United Stand: “I would say it will be McKenna, but that terrifies me for many reasons. He is a good coach, but he terrifies me that Manchester United is going in that direction.

“I have a lot of sympathy for Ten Hag and his team because I think they have been left behind this season. The results haven't been good enough, but I didn't want this to happen.

“We will never be successful if we don't stick to a project and carry it out. Ten Hag had a good year one and a bad year two, she should get a year three.

“It is increasingly difficult to understand Man United's vision. I don't like the vision of INEOS. I don't like what I hear about INEOS, I don't like what I hear about Dan Ashworth, I don't like his obsession with Gareth Southgate and I don't like the way he has behaved with Newcastle.

“My question is, when everything goes wrong with the next manager, what happens then?”
