This led to the Portuguese international catching the former Leicester playmaker high up the leg.
Although replays showed it was not a spike challenge, Fernandes instead caught it with the back of the ankle.
However, referee Chris Kavanagh wasted no time in showing him a straight red card, and Spurs scored two goals in the second half as they took advantage of having an extra man.
Fernandes himself insisted it was never a red card offense in his post-match interview, prompting United to lodge an appeal.
And the club has since declared that it has won its wrongful dismissal claim.
It means Fernandes will be available for the away clash at Aston Villa on Sunday, along with games against Brentford and West Ham after the international break.
TO statement read: “Bruno Fernandes will be available for Manchester United's next three matches following a successful claim for unfair dismissal.
“The midfielder was sent off for serious foul play during the Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 29 September.
“Fernandes would miss our league games against Aston Villa, Brentford and West Ham but will now be available for selection following the successful appeal.”
Fernandes' red card was the first of his United career in what was his 242nd appearance.
And in a live TV interview on Sky Sports immediately after United's defeat, he fumed that Kavanagh made the wrong decision, while claiming Maddison agreed with him.
He said: “Never a red card, that's my opinion. I agree it's a foul.”
“The referee tried to tell me that as he saw it was clear contact with the studs, no.
“I didn't touch it with my cleats or even my foot, it was my ankle. It's a clear foul.
“If he wants to give me a yellow card because they are going to do a counterattack, then I agree. But more than that, no. That's not the case.”
He added: “Even James Maddison, when he got up, said it wasn't a red card. If it is a red card, we will have to look at a lot of other incidents.”
“I don't understand why the VAR doesn't call him (the referee) on the screen.
“The red card makes it worse. I have to thank all the effort my teammates have made to try to get back into the game, but it was not possible.
“They showed great effort and character and I'm happy about that.”
