Manchester United fans point to damning quotes from Cristiano Ronaldo to highlight how the club has been left to rot
Manchester United fans believe Cristiano Ronaldo was right when he insisted the club had been left to rot.
As United were defeated 1-0 by Arsenalthe roof of Old Trafford gave way to torrents of rainwaterperfectly exemplifying how the once great stadium has been allowed to fall into disrepair.
It was a point illustrated by Ronaldo in his explosive interview with Piers Morgan At the end of 2022 when he hit the club, the Glazers and Erik ten Hag before they broke his contract with United.
The veteran striker returned to Old Trafford in 2021, 12 years after leaving for real Madrid in 2009, and revealed that the facilities were exactly the same.
“Nothing has changed since I left,” he said on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
“The pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym, even some technology. Even the chefs that I appreciate, lovely people.
“I thought I would see new technology and infrastructure. I saw things I saw when I was 20!”
A year and a half later, Ronaldo's words seem to still ring true with the club still in a worrying situation on and off the pitch.
It has seen fans rediscover Ronaldo's old interview and agree with the 39-year-old, who has since signed for Al Nassr after leaving United.
One fan said on social media: “When Cristiano Ronaldo He told them the truth about his sports facilities and everything at Old Trafford, all they did was hate him and fire him.
“What's going on at the club is really deeper than any of us can understand!”
Another wrote: “Cristiano Ronaldo got that interview with Piers Morgan right. Old Trafford is falling apart.”
A third wrote: “Cristiano Ronaldo was right all along, Old Trafford is really old and really fell apart.”
This fan said: “There is nothing Cristiano Ronaldo has said about Man United that hasn't been proven true. All United fans owe him an apology.”
And another said: “Ronaldo was right about United's infrastructure. It really is old Trafford.”
United are currently eighth in the Premier League, which would be their lowest position in the division if that is where they finish next week when the season ends.
Their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday was their 14th in the Premier League this campaign, leaving them 32 points off the top.
But there might be a change in the air next Sir Jim Ratcliffe arrived to take charge of football operations, hiring Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada as sporting director and chief executive respectively.
Daniel Ashworth is being considered for the manager's role, while several players are already being considered for transfers this summer, including Michael Olise, Jean-Clair Todibo and Benjamin Sesko.
