According to the Spanish media alphabet, Manchester United have a genuine interest in signing Sevilla ace Juanlu Sánchez.
The 21-year-old played for Spain's under-23 team during the Summer Olympics, where he won the gold medal. He predominantly played as a right-back for La Roja in Paris, but this season he has started as a midfielder.
ABC now reports that Manchester United have been particularly impressed with Juanlu's performance in the French capital and a club representative has spoken to a colleague of Victor Orta, who is currently sporting director at Sevilla.
United have not submitted a formal offer for the youngster, but their interest is said to be genuine.
Good talent
Juanlu has the ability to play both at right-back and in midfield. He started his career at Sevilla as a right-back in defence, but this season he has played mainly in central midfield.
The youngster has caught the eye with his creative and recovery moves, but we would be surprised if United decided to sign him. Despite his good performance at the Olympic Games, Juanlu has yet to find consistency at Sevilla.
Last season, he struggled as the Andalusian club's right-back. He was dribbled past passed 8 times During a Champions League group stage match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Gabriel Martinelli left him exhausted.
Juanlu looks much more composed from the number 8 position, but the Red Devils may have to keep an eye on him during the current campaign to find out if he can be a positive addition to the first team next year.
United are likely to part ways with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro Soon, the club will probably replace them with younger players with potential. It remains to be seen whether Juanlu emerges as a serious option.
Juanlu has a termination clause worth £21 million in his Sevilla contract. His release clause was raised from £13m in January after he made his 25th appearance for the La Liga side's first team.
