Manchester United will be sued for a major administrative problem: by its own staff.
A huge mistake caused 167 employees to accidentally have their payslips sent to them along with everyone else's data.
Casual workers received the name, address, national insurance number, income, pension and tax contributions of all their co-workers by email.
Sun reports that all confidential details were included in a single file received by restaurant and hospitality staff, museum and stadium tours, and program vendors.
United They were testing a new system but there was a “lack of management staff to supervise the procedure”, it was stated.
And the workers have now lodged a compensation claim with the High Court on data protection grounds, as it has been pointed out that the information submitted could be used by criminals to commit financial fraud.
Jonathan Whittle, of Your Lawyers, represents 32 of the claimants and said: “The club's billionaire owners should take responsibility for this mistake.”
The error was made on March 9, 2018 and was reported to the Information Commissioner's Office, who recommended improvements.
The plaintiffs now intend to sue United for fees of up to £100,000.
A United spokesperson said: “We take the privacy of our employees' data very seriously and regret this isolated incident, which occurred in 2018.

“Steps were taken to prevent this from happening again and we informed the Information Commissioner's Office who took no further action.”
United have since seen a change in the boardroom with the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe after investing £1bn.
After taking control of 25 percent of the club's Class B shares and 25 percent of its Class A shares, he became United's largest individual shareholder.
