Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy prepares for instant return to football to take charge of Premier League strugglers
Ruud van Nistelrooy will be appointed Leicester manager, talkSPORT understands.
Van Nistelrooy He impressed the Foxes hierarchy after overseeing two wins against them as caretaker boss of Manchester United.
Their first victory over the Midlands team came in the Carabao Cup, in which red devils won 5-2 in the round of 16.
And in his last game on the Old Trafford bench, United achieved a 3-0 victory against leicester before the international break in November.
The Foxes also considered West Brom's Carlos Corberan and England under-21 coach Lee Carsley, but were reluctant to pay compensation.
Graham Potter was also a target, however he did not want the job.
Van Nistelrooy was eager to return to football, having previously applied for the management position at Coventry.
Although talkSPORT understands former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is in advanced talks to take over the championship team.
Leicester will be the second permanent coaching role for former Real Madrid striker Van Nistelrooy, who previously worked at PSV.
He spent a year with the Dutch giants from May 2022 to May 2023, where he won the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruyff Shield.
Van Nistelrooy returned to Old Trafford in the summer to become one of Erik ten Hag's assistant managers.
Following the dismissal of his Dutch compatriot, Van Nistelrooy took charge of United on an interim basis.
Having remained unbeaten in his four games in charge, fans were desperate for the club to retain him.
However his departure was confirmed earlier this month after the arrival of Rubén Amorim at the Teatro de los Sueños.
