Manchester United run out of options when deciding against two coaches as 'frustrated' Erik Ten Hag waits for news

Manchester United are running out of time and options as uncertainty continues over Erik ten Hag's future as manager.

The Dutchman does not know if he will be in charge of the club next season despite leading the Red Devils to FA Cup glory last month.

United's owners, including INEOS, are conducting a review of the club's season with Ten Hag's future on the agenda.

Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel does not apply for the position after a meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffewhile United have cooled their interest in Mauricio Pochettino.

England manager Gareth Southgate remains linked with the Old Trafford job but his current focus is solely on the Three Lions. Euro 2024 Campaign.

Ten Hag is believed to be frustrated by the club's delay in announcing their plans for next season, which the Dutchman believes could hamper summer transfer plans.

“The impression I get is that Ten Hag has become very frustrated and agitated by how long this process is taking,” talkSPORT chief football correspondent Alex Crook said.

“I keep coming back to Gareth Southgate. He has been making noises that if England don't win the European Championship, or even if they do, he might quit.

“He has an existing relationship with INEOS members Dave Brailsford and incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth.

“There may be a situation where Erik ten Hag The season starts and if it doesn't go well manchester united They make the call to Gareth Southgate.

“Personally, I think it is unfair to Erik ten Hag and I think the way the process is unfolding borders on disrespectful.”

Meanwhile, Crook remains doubtful whether Southgate would be a good fit for Manchester United given his performances at club level and his failure to win a major tournament with England.

“I don't agree,” he added. “If you look at his record at club level and with this golden generation of England. I think he's done a lot of positive things with this team, but they haven't won a major trophy yet.

“In the last Euro they should have beaten Italy. They took a goal lead and then went into defensive mode. “If we had scored a second goal, the Italians would be finished.”

Asked why INEOS would opt for Southgate, Crook said: “Maybe they want someone to come in and drive the dressing room and someone who can handle the stick that inevitably comes his way as Manchester United manager.

“I don't see any joint thinking. If you look at the list of candidates, Thomas Tuchel is a very different character to Gareth Southgate, he plays a different kind of football than Mauricio Pochettino.

“I'm not convinced that Sir Jim Ratcliffe knows what they are looking for, but what we are learning is that they are not convinced that Erik ten Hag is the right man for the Manchester United striker in the long term.”

Brentford's Thomas Frank has also been mentioned as a potential candidate, but unless they move soon, Erik ten Hag will be in charge for the season opener in August.

Southgate himself has questioned his future in England and hinted that he could leave the job if he does not win Euro 2024.

“If we don't win, I probably won't be here anymore.” Southgate said image. “So maybe it's the last chance. I think about half of national coaches leave after a tournament; that is the nature of international football.

“I've been here almost eight years and we've gotten closer. You can't constantly stand in front of an audience and say, 'A little more, please,' because at some point people lose faith. If we want to be a great team and I want to be a top-level coach, you must deliver in the big moments.”
