Turkish journalist Berat Kunt reports that Manchester United are willing to activate the €12 million release clause in Álvaro Morata's contract with Atlético de Madrid.
United are actively searching for a striker this summer to relieve pressure on last year's €85m signing Rasmus Hojlund. Coach Erik ten Hag intends to pair Hojlund with an experienced striker and believes the 31-year-old Morata is the ideal candidate for the role.
While Morata's potential move may surprise many Premier League fans given his challenging spell at Chelsea from 2017 to 2019, during which he scored just 24 goals in 72 games and faced criticism for his finishing, he has enjoyed a successful career with the best clubs such as Real Madrid, Juventus and Atlético de Madrid.
Juventus have also shown interest in re-signing Morata for what would be his third spell in Turin. Morata has expressed his desire to leave Atlético this summer, publicly expressing his frustrations about his role at the club.
