Manchester United have announced that work has begun on redesigning the iconic players' tunnel at Old Trafford.
The tunnel is being renovated ahead of the new season to “create a performance environment that inspires and motivates our male, female and Academy players on match days.”
The redevelopment is being overseen by the football department and will “introduce a more modern and premium space for teams to use.”
United have confirmed that existing plaques in memory of former club chairman John Henry Davis and former owner James W Gibson will have a new home inside the tunnel.
The tunnel, which is situated between the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand and the Stretford End, has entertained some of world football's most iconic players over the years.
It has also been the scene of controversial moments, including the infamous 'Battle of the buffet' controversy when Manchester United He played for Arsenal in 2004.
The redevelopment is further evidence of INEOS’ ambitions to return Manchester United to its former glory, starting with the modernisation of the club’s facilities.
United have already announced that work will begin to upgrade the men's first team building at their Carrington training base.
The upgrades, which aim to deliver a “world-class football facility with a positive culture to support future success”, will cost the club £50m and work will continue throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
Upgrading United's training base became a priority for INEOS sporting director Dave Brailsford after an initial inspection.
The antiquated facility was the focus of attention Cristiano Ronaldo's frustration during his speech about the club in a explosive interview with Piers Morgan in 2022.
Brailsford is keen to improve standards both on and off the pitch at Manchester United with significant investment to help drive the club forward.
