Leon Goretzka has played just one minute of football across four games for Bayern Munich this season, but compatriot Manuel Neuer believes his teammate can bounce back after been excluded from the squad against Holstein Kiel.
The 29-year-old wants to fight for his place at the club but was left in Munich as the Rekordmeister recorded a comfortable 6-1 win at Holstein Kiel.
With an injury to Sacha Boey, Goretzka will return to Bayern Munich’s matchday squad for Tuesday’s game against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
Manuel Neuer backs Leon Goretzka to return to form
Speaking in Monday’s press conference ahead of their opening Champions League game, Neuer supported Goretzka.
“We players feel for him too,” said Neuer. “He has always been an important player for us. I believe in him, he’s extremely motivated and you can see that in every training session. I’m firmly convinced that his time will come.”
With this year’s final being held at the Allianz Arena in Munich for the first time since 2012, Neuer also has a clear goal in mind: “The final is in Munich. We want to get there and we will give everything to be there.”
