Germany set a record at Euro 2024 after a 5-1 opening win over veteran Scotland. Manuel Neuer in purpose.
The hosts are among the favorites to go on and win the European Championship title next month and have made a perfect start.
Julian Nagelsmann opted to reinstate Neuer as his first-choice goalkeeper following his return from injury in October, with Marc-Andre Ter Stegen he returns to his role as deputy.
Ter Stegen impressed in Neuer's absence, but Nagelsmann's plan was still to start with Neuer at Euro 2024.
Neuer insisted that the challenge of working with Ter Stegen every day pushes him to maintain a high level, but said the debate over who should start is not helping anyone.
“It's important to stay united. We have a great team with great players, but starting debates doesn't help. Goalkeepers work to support each other,” according to reports from Brand.
Neuer was also asked if he would retire from international duty after the competition, and he admitted it is a consideration, as he will be 40 before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
