Slot is believed to be in advanced talks on a deal that will allow him to leave the current Eredivise champions Feyenoord and succeed Klopp on the Liverpool bench.

However, Carragher wrote in his Daily Telegraph column. that appointing the Dutch manager is a big risk compared to a manager like Tuchel, who previously had success replacing Klopp in Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.

The Reds legend believes in the former. ChelseaPSG and soon-to-be former Bayern Munich coach would be a better option to stay Liverpool performing at the highest level and competing for important trophies.

Goldbridge disagreesHowever, and admits that Liverpool find themselves in an equally impossible position as their beloved United when it comes to finding a replacement for the great Mr Alex Ferguson.

It's a similar situation to Manchester United in more ways than one. You have Klopp leaving like when Sir Alex left, and we were wrong, very wrong.

There's this whole coaching market that's not as strong as you'd like when you're replacing one of the best coaches in your history, and then there's Slot, who maybe comes from the Eredivisie with a very good reputation, just like Erik ten Hagbut now he's under pressure.

I thought Liverpool would go for Ruben Amorim But maybe there's something you're not sure about. Obviously they really wanted Xabi Alonso but he will stay where he is and therefore you will have to take a risk.

I can understand why they are doing it and would definitely go with Slot. Thomas Tuchel.

Slot has won two trophies as Feyenoord coach: the Eredivisie title last season and the Dutch Cup this season.

Why would you go after Tuchel? I think it's overrated. Why would you go looking for the guy who has been fired by Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich? Just because of the German connection after Klopp? It just seems like a terrible idea to do that.

It will be very interesting to see because it is a very important decision and there has to be a fall. Which players are going to stay? How long will this reconstruction take? Where are they going to end up after Klopp? It's going to be fascinating.

Mark Goldbridge responds to Erik ten Hag's 'obsession' and questions 'miserable' fans who didn't celebrate FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City

They may get lucky and do well, but it's not just about Slot's tactics or whoever comes in, it's the personality, it's the mentality. Klopp dominates the media, he dominates Liverpool fandom, there is mutual respect and he “gets” Liverpool.

Can they get lucky twice? There has to be nervousness within the Liverpool fan base when you replace someone of Klopp's stature.

Don't blame Darwin, third is right

I look at this Liverpool team and think that if Jurgen Klopp doesn't go, they would be much better off next year. They are a good team, but they are an inexperienced team and it is still very early in their transition.

The way football is now, people always want to blame someone, and blaming Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz or anyone who missed opportunities when they should be scoring is naive.

Liverpool have squandered their title chances and their failed stars have taken most of the blame.

Liverpool are not Manchester City and they are not. Arsenal, they are not at that level yet. I know they have been in the past, but this is a new Liverpool team that Klopp was building.

I think they have had a very good season, the only disappointment is that they are not going to give Klopp what he deserves in his last year with the club.

When you really look at the team and where they are coming from with their midfield rebuild, finishing third after having challenged for the title until the end of April would be a very good starting point to build on in the summer.

But it's the whole Klopp thing that has led to this huge disappointment.
