Mark Goldbridge responds to 'toxic' accusation from Manchester United fans after Alejandro Garnacho liked social media posts
Mark Goldbridge has hit back at claims he is “toxic” to Manchester United after making headlines.
One of the talkSPORT presenter's posts on X, formerly Twitter, has led to Alejandro Garnacho being talked about by the club.
Garnacho liked a post by Goldbridge that criticized his substitution at half-time in the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, and the message also suggested he had been “thrown under the bus” by Erik ten Hag.
The end quickly removed the likes and Ten Hag is believed to have spoken to him.
The United Stand host joined the talkSPORT breakfast on Tuesday and responded to claims of manchester united Season ticket holder Shaun, who called him “toxic” to the club.
Goldbridge responded by saying: “You get these people and I have no problem with that. They definitely don't watch the content, I'd love to know what I've said that's toxic over the last year. Maybe Shaun can let me know.
“I think there is a misconception about things that people don't see. I'm not going to judge Eastenders because I don't watch it.
“I don't want the coach to be fired, is that toxic? I wanted (Marcus) Rashford to return to the team after he had been drinkingIs that toxic? I support a 19-year-old who has been good for us this season.
“People are entitled to their opinion, but I think they need to be educated about silly words like that.”
Commenting on his social media activity, Goldbridge added: “Apparently you can't tweet now. I am the biggest problem at Manchester United. Neither the Glazers nor the manager.
“I posted a tweet as a fan and it's not my fault he liked it. “I certainly don't apologize for it, I stand by what I said.”
Garnacho has been one of United's bright spots this season, racking up nine goals and four assists in 42 games in all competitions.
Goldbridge doubled down on his opinion that Ten Hag was wrong to publicly criticize the teenager.
He continued: “Things are said in a game that is in the heat of the moment, but that is after the game. I didn't really understand the substitution and I don't think I misunderstood it.
“Twice he said there was a problem on the right wing, Garnacho made two errors that led to the goal.
“Subtly, I think he was criticizing Garnacho for not having played a good game.
“My problem with that is that I have seen Casemiro, Rashford and other more experienced players be bad for Manchester United for a long, long time.
“You have a 19-year-old who has been good for us this season and I thought I was basically criticizing him, which is a little inconsistent and that was really my point.
“With the first goal, Rasmus (Hojlund) passes him the ball and he loses it and that leads directly to (Dominic) Solanke scoring.
“I don't think anyone will deny it, but I think that over the course of a season you have money in the bank with a coach and I felt that Casemiro was very bad and he has been for the last month.
“Jamie Redknapp said it was like he was playing in Soccer Aid, as much as it is a joke, it is true. I know some managers do it differently, but I didn't like that.
“Saturday was the turning point for Ten Hag, where some of his selections, substitutions and style of football allowed him to win and then Bournemouth dominated us.
“There are frustrations among the fans. I think United fans have every right to feel frustrated.
“It's very difficult to see us right now, we are being dominated by teams that basically just outplay us and that's a fact.”
