Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martínez has once again been nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or and shortlisted for the prestigious Yashin Trophy.

Martínez was named as the winner of the 2023 Yashin Trophy at a glittering Ballon d’Or awards ceremony in Paris last October.

And the Villa and Argentina No.1, who last month penned a new long-term contract with the club, has once more been nominated for the accolade which honours the best goalkeepers in world football.

Martínez, also shortlisted in 2021, faces competition from Diogo Costa (Porto), Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG), Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund), Andriy Lunin (Real Madrid), Mike Maignan (AC Milan), Giorgi Mamardashvili (Valencia), Unai Simon (Athletic Bilbao), Yann Sommer (Inter Milan) and Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns).

Martínez, having placed 15th in the 2023 Ballon d’Or, has also again been recognised by France Football this year and named among 30 players in contention for the highly-respected award.

It comes following a year in which he helped Villa secure an historic fourth-placed finish in the Premier League and reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

At international level, 2022 World Cup winner Martínez helped guide Argentina to a second successive Copa América title earlier this summer.

The renowned stopper also previously collected The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper Award and World Cup Golden Glove Award in 2022.

The winners of the 2024 Ballon d’Or and Yashin Trophy will be announced on Monday, October 28.

Huge congratulations, Emi!
