Martínez and Konsa start against Dortmund

Emi Martínez and Ezri Konsa made their first appearances of pre-season as Aston Villa faced Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park.

Villa No.1 Martinez, who celebrated Copa América success with Argentina earlier this summer, returned between the sticks.

He joined centre-back Konsa in Unai Emery’s starting XI following his achievements with England in reaching the Euro 2024 final.

Ollie Watkins and Jhon Durán, having also recently returned following their international exploits, were not involved in the matchday 24 in Germany.

John McGinn captained Villa against last season’s Champions League finalists, with Ian Maatsen, who spent the second half of last term on loan at Dortmund, named among the substitutes.
