Emi Martínez was named Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper 2024 on Tuesday night.

It’s the second time Aston Villa’s World Cup winner has won the award following his triumph two years ago, becoming the first player to win it twice since its inception in 2017.

Martínez was named as the recipient ahead of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Ederson, Andriy Lunin, Mike Maignan, David Raya and Unai Simon at an awards ceremony in Qatar.

The Villa ‘keeper was also named in the Best FIFA Men’s 11 2024 to round off a superb evening.

It is the latest acknowledgement for the Argentinian stopper, on the back of exceptional form for both the Villans and his national side in recent years, which has seen him become the first player in history to win the Yashin Trophy in back-to-back seasons

The award caps another fine year for the 32-year-old, who won his second Copa América Golden Glove as Argentina recaptured the trophy in July.

His performances were also a major factor as Villa qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time, finishing fourth in the Premier League in 2023/24.

Congratulations, Emi!
