Aston Villa is delighted to announce that Emi Martinez has signed a new contract with the club.
A firm fans’ favourite, the World Cup-winning goalkeeper has extended his stay at Villa Park until 2029.
He joined the club in September 2020, saving a penalty on his debut and enjoying a stellar maiden campaign, equalling the club record of 15 clean sheets in a top-flight season.
Since then, he has gone on to rack up over 150 appearances for the club and has captained the side on occasion.
On the international stage, Martinez has also starred for his country. Making his debut after joining Villa, he has twice won the Copa America and lifted the game’s greatest prize, playing a key role as Argentina won the World Cup in 2022.
Congratulations, Emi!
