Mason Greenwood trains alone with Manchester United in advanced talks over exit

Marseille are in advanced talks with Manchester United over the transfer of Mason Greenwood, talkSPORT understands.

Greenwood is training alone away from the rest of the Manchester United players who have already returned for pre-season as the club tries to sort out his future.

The Red Devils value the former England striker at £40m and would prefer an outright sale rather than a loan with an option to buy.

Last month, talkSPORT reported Marseille is excited to add Greenwood to their team and have had positive discussions with him.

The 22-year-old has also attracted strong interest from Lazio, Napoli and Juventus, as well as clubs in Spain, Germany and Portugal.

A £17m bid from Lazio for Greenwood was rejected earlier this year.

The Bradford-born player spent last season on loan at LaLiga side Getafe.

We reported that the Spanish club have opened talks with Manchester United for another season-long loan, but Greenwood appears set for a permanent transfer.

Last August, the Red Devils confirmed that the striker would continue his career outside the club following an internal investigation.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of rape, assault and threats to kill after images and videos appeared online.

He was later suspended by the club and he denied all allegations.

All The charges were later dropped. by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023 due to “a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material”.

However, United still conducted its internal investigation.

He last played for Manchester United on 22 January 2022 in a 1-0 win over West Ham.
