Prior to Vincent Kompany’s arrival at Bayern Munich, Mathys Tel’s future at the club appeared uncertain. But according to Bild, the French attacker is now likely to play an important role at the club.
Tel started both games against Tottenham, and the 19-year-old is a player whom Kompany rates highly. Operating on the left-wing, the Belgian sees Tel as a player who could push for place in the starting eleven, more so following the departure of Bryan Zaragoza to Osasuna on loan, and with Paris Saint-Germain showing an interest in signing Kingsley Coman.
Arriving from Stade Rennais as a 17-year-old in July 2022 for €20m, Tel has played 69 games (2006 minutes) across all competitions for Bayern Munich, scoring 16 and creating six – a goal contribution every 91.1 minutes. Last season, the Frenchman scored 10 and created six in 41 games, but started just six times in the Bundesliga.
In March, Tel extended his contract with Bayern Munich until June 2029 after Christoph Freund and Max Eberl showed the French youth international “a clear path and assured him that he is planned as a key player” for Bayern in the future. And now with Kompany in charge, that time may be now.
