Mats Hummels’ Champions League final appearance may be his last game for Borussia Dortmund. The 35-year-old is yet to decide on his future, with the defender’s contract expiring at the end of the season.
Player of the Match performances in both legs against Paris Saint-Germain, it wasn’t meant to be for Borussia Dortmund as they fell at the final hurdle, losing 2-0 to now 15-time Champions League winners Real Madrid.
It was a chance at redemption for Borussia Dortmund after their 2013 Champions League final defeat at Wembley, which Hummels was a part of, but they were made to rue missed chances. But, Dortmund showed heart and courage in what was a phenomenal European campaign.

But, Hummels’ future is, as of yet, undecided. We knew that a decision wasn’t going to be made until after the Champions League final and when asked, the German provided an update.
“I have no idea what will happen to me in July,” said Hummels. “I like the situation, but it also feels a bit strange. It feels strange not knowing. Everything will be decided in the next few weeks. Today the disappointment of losing the final outweighs everything.”
