Bild reports that Hoffenheim and Germany striker Maximilian Beier is the top candidate to replace the outgoing Niclas Füllkrug at Borussia Dortmund.
Now that Füllkrug is leaving the club, Dortmund is looking at a different striker profile to bolster its attacking options alongside Serhou Guirassy. Beier is seen as more flexible and not a pure striker compared to his compatriot Füllkrug. This also means he offers a different profile to Guirassy.
The fee that Dortmund will have to pay for Beier is said to be around €25-30m. The Germany international previously had a release clause in his contract worth €30m, but that has now expired. With the €30m fee that Dortmund will receive for Füllkrug, the price for Beier will not be a problem.
Previously Chelsea and Aston Villa have both shown interest in Beier, but a move within the Bundesliga seems to be the hottest lead.
Last season was Beier’s breakout season in the Bundesliga as he 16 times in 33 Bundesliga games. The 21-year-old’s form earned him a call-up to the German national team for EURO 2024 where he had a 25-minute cameo against Switzerland in Germany’s final group game.
