The 22-year-old could be seen wincing in pain and was unable to put any weight on his foot.

As a result, he was replaced by Gabriel Jesús, who replaced him in Arsenal's forward line.

Bukayo Saka was also taken off at half-time to be replaced by Fabio Vieira, however this was because he was not feeling well, says Arteta.

“Bukayo was feeling a bit ill and Martinelli had a cut on his foot, so we'll have to see,” Arteta told talkSPORT after the match.

Martinelli suffered a hamstring injury early in the season, but was absent only two league games as a result.

He has now scored eight goals and assisted a further five in all competitions in the current campaign following his efforts against Sheffield United.
