With Man of the Match performances against Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels has played a key role in helping his side reach the Champions League final – where they face Spanish champions Real Madrid on June 1 at Wembley – but his future remains uncertain.
Hummels’ current Borussia Dortmund contract expires at the end of the season. Speaking prior to last weekend’s finale in the Bundesliga, Edin Terzić stated that the club and player will make a decision after the Champions League football next weekend.
Three options for Mats Hummels
At 35, retirement is one possibility should Hummels no longer wish to continue his playing career. Another option being signing a one-year contract extension, just as the German defender did last year. But as mentioned, decisive talks between all parties won’t take place until after June 1.
But now, according to Bild, Milan and Juventus are interested in signing Hummels on a free transfer. Per the report, Italy would be an appealing destination for Hummels due to the fact that with his son and ex-wife currently living in Munich, the distance to Milan and Turin is no longer than that to Dortmund, and so visiting family would not be an issue.
