Jamie Carragher has revealed that Mohamed Salah left him “very disappointed” after he delivered a huge Liverpool contract update.
The legend of the reds His current contract expires at the end of the season and he could therefore leave after eight brilliant years at Anfield.
After scoring two goals in Liverpool 3-2 victory at Southampton on Sunday, Salah said he is I have not received any offers of the club to stay.
He also stated that “he is probably more outside than inside”, and his comments have not sat well with the club legend. Carragherwho called him “selfish.”
Speaking on Monday Night Football for sky sports on Monday he said: “Of course there have been discussions.
“At the moment there is obviously a big difference in the valuation of Mo Salah and his agent, whether financially or in terms of contract length, with what Liverpool do.
“So the reason Liverpool wouldn't have offered a contract yet is because Mo Salah will reject it. So they are still in talks, maybe… I'm desperate for them to meet in the middle. But I have to say “I'm very disappointed with Mo Salah.”
Presenter David Jones asked why, and Carragher replied: “That interview yesterday, last night after the game and it's out today.
“Liverpool have Real Madrid during the week and Manchester City at the weekend, that is the story of Liverpool at the moment.
“Mo Salah, we are all very aware, certainly the local journalists are in Liverpool, that in the seven years he has been at the football club, he has been in the mixed zone twice, which is his right, which which is absolutely fine.
“But he decided to stop for the third time at Southampton after winning the game against Liverpool and eliminating them.
“Now, the most important thing for Liverpool Football Club this season is not the future of Mo Salah, it is not the future of Virgil van Dijk and it is not the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
“The most important thing is for Liverpool to win the Premier League, that's more important than any of those players.
“And if they continue to post comments or their agent keeps posting cryptic tweets, that's selfish, that's thinking about themselves and not the football club.”
Jones then asked if perhaps Salah doesn't feel he is getting the love he deserves at Liverpool.
However, Carragher responded: “Well, he's certainly getting the love from me and the Liverpool fans and they're in talks, that's part of football.”
“I would say Mo Salah is in the top five players to have ever played for Liverpool Football Club. I would pick Steven Gerrard, Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness, Ian Rush and I would put Mo Salah in fifth position. That's how high I am. Rate it, that's how special this guy is…”
“So give him what he wants, right?” Jones asked, but Carragher said: “No. It's not about giving someone what they want.
“But what I would say is that I hope Mo Salah and the other two players who are involved in this, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, (don't) feel that this club will fall apart if they ever leave.
“Steven Gerrard left the football club, the next manager came in and won the league. Steven Gerrard didn't win the league, Jurgen Klopp won the league with a new team.
“Kenny Dalglish, at the time the best player in Liverpool's history, when he stopped playing, Peter Beardsley came in and he was part of probably the best football team we've ever seen in a red shirt in 1988.
“Graeme Souness left, Liverpool won the double for the first time in their history two years later in 1986. Ian Rush moved on, after him came John Aldridge, and then when Ian Rush left came Robbie Fowler.
“And Salah, would we miss him if he moved on? Of course we would, but I can assure you that Liverpool will move on.”
Salah has scored 223 goals in 367 games for Liverpool in all competitions, and the Egyptian has assisted a further 99.
The 32-year-old is the club's top scorer in the Premier League with 165 goals, putting him in eighth place on the league's all-time list.
He has been instrumental in Liverpool's success in recent years, which includes wins in the Premier League and Champions League.
However, this could be Salah's last season at the club, especially if he and the club fail to agree on a new contract.
talkSPORT reported earlier this month that Saudi club Al Hilal wants sign to the extreme facing the Club World Cup.
