“Now you can feel that this is the Moisés Caicedo that we all know and also when you look at him, when you look at him right now, you can see that there is a bit of confidence there.

“There's a bit of 'Ok, I play for Chelsea Football Club now, this is my team'. With the performances, with the way he conducts himself on the pitch, there's no kind of (ego)… Exactly!

“It's absolutely fantastic, I saw him there, he was everywhere. It's a bit like a Kante-style performance, all credit goes to Moisés and also to the manager for giving him so much confidence and making sure he believes in him.”

Enzo Fernandez captained Chelsea against West Ham, with the club's designated captain Reece James still out with a hamstring problem.

Argentina international Fernandez has worn the Blues armband on two occasions this season but Mikel believes he could pass Caicedo in the long term.

“Now he has paid off with his performances and I think this is the guy who will eventually, probably, become the captain of the team,” Mikel added.

Despite being only his second season at Chelsea, Caicedo has played in 55 competitions.

He has started all five of their Premier League games this season, as well as their 2-0 Conference League qualifying first leg win over Servette.
