'Moping' – Gary Neville backs Ruben Amorim over bold sacking of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho
Gary Neville calls for 'depressed' Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho to 'come back stronger' after missing the Manchester derby.
manchester united boss Ruben Amorim made a bold decision by leaving both star wingers completely out of his matchday squad for the trip to Man City.
It paid off in the end as United produced a stunning late comeback to defeat City 2-1, making it eight defeats in 11 games for their rivals.
Despite their victory, the hot topic after the match was the elimination of Rashford and Garnacho.
Neville backed Amorim's decision after the match.
“I don't know about his long-term future,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“But what's really clear is that Amorim mentioned interaction with teammates, he mentioned standards.
“He is giving us clues, in fact, emphatic clues, about the last few days that they are down and not doing their bit on the training pitch.
“They are standards in training and he thought 'no, I won't accept it, I won't accept it.' Good for him.
“For too long we have seen depressed players on that field and yet they continue to play or remain on the bench.
“No. It has to be non-negotiable. If you don't give your all at your job, you're out, you're out. That's all.”
Although they have been left out, Neville does not believe it is the end of the road for these players.
“We've been sitting in this studio for years as ex-Man United players saying 'give it your all' and the players haven't been running,” he said.
“We have seen Rashford and Garnacho stand on that left and right wing and not chase when the full-backs have passed them and still remain on the field. No more.
“Desire Mark Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho to come back stronger.
“Let's take the message they have been given by training on the training ground this morning on a Sunday with no one else there.
“I want them to take this in the right spirit and become Manchester United's best players.
“I don't care who you are, whether you are Andrei Kanchelskis or Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Nani, whoever you are as a wide player at Man United, you have to run this way (forward) as fast as you can.” you can and run in that direction (backwards) as fast as you can.
“They have the talent, they have the ability, but if they don't do it there is no place for you in the club, there is no place for you in the team.”
Despite being left out, Rashford celebrated Diallo's goal from the comfort of his home.
She shared a post on Instagram with the caption: “Yessssssss! I love it guys.”
Roy Keane He also shared his opinion on the situation and said that if it had been him as a player, being left out of such an important match would leave a mark.
“If a coach mentioned that about you as a player after the game and gave those little signs about why you were left out of the first team, not on the bench in an important game, a derby against Manchester City, “And if you hear these noises about what he might think of you, you would be ashamed of your life,” the former United captain said.
“To go out with these noises that they were training this morning, training on the training ground, they have to stay in shape. He knows what this coach is doing. Amorim is a smart cookie and he has a bit of power now.
“Those players at home must be sitting there thinking 'Oh my God, I'm embarrassed, that's what it says about me.'
“He's had to make big decisions, that's what he's done. “His eyes don’t lie to him.”
Attention will now turn to Thursday night's Carabao Cup quarter-final at Tottenham.
It remains to be seen if Rashford and Garnacho will be there.
