My Manchester United teammates partied until 3am, this is how Sir Alex Ferguson dealt with the 'imbeciles'
Robin van Persie revealed how Sir Alex Ferguson attacked two Manchester United stars for partying in the hours after their Manchester derby defeat.
United They were beaten 2-1 by Premier League champions City at Old Trafford in 2013, which saw their lead at the top of the table reduced to ten points.
The Dutch striker did not reveal the identity of the two players who went out partying after the resounding defeat.
Ferguson was later informed of the players in question and responded by putting photos of the couple enjoying their night out on the locker room wall.
The legendary manager went further to describe them as “imbeciles” and claimed their antics could end up costing United the title.
Ferguson also sent a warning to his team informing them that anyone else engaging in similar activities would be sold.
Van Persie revelation comes to light after United's decision to take Mark Rashford available for Thursday's clash against Wolves, despite being spotted in a Belfast nightclub last week, which saw him miss Friday's training and Sunday's FA Cup win at Newport.
“The day after the match, Sir Alex put up photographs on the dressing room wall of the two players taken during their night out,” Van Persie told SoFoot.
“He told the whole team: 'Guys, if we don't win the league it's because of these two idiots who chose to leave.'
“I know the names, but I can't reveal them,” added the Dutchman. “The manager massacred them. It was incredible. He had posted photos documenting where they were, at 2am, 3am, 4am, etc., to underline how stupid they had been.
“He didn't stop there, but warned us that if he found out that any of us were leaving before winning the league we would be left off the team.
“He was ruthless and said, 'I don't care who you are or how many trophies you've won; If you leave before the end of the season, I will sell you.'
“After that speech I had the two hardest training sessions I have ever had in my life. We went on to win the title. A manager has to know when to be tough and when to ease the pressure.”
Ferguson's words seemed to have the desired effect on his team, who were able to get over the line and regain the Premier League title against City.
Three wins in his last seven games were enough for Van Persie to claim his first and only title in what turned out to be Ferguson's final season in charge.
The former Arsenal striker was key to United's success, scoring 26 goals in 38 league games.
