Deichstube reports that Werder Bremen are likely to terminate the contract of midfielder Naby Keïta at the end of the season.
Keïta has been forced to train away from the team and has been fined around €100k euros for refusing to travel with the team to Leverkusen for their 5-0 loss against Die Werkself at the weekend. Instead, the 29-year-old went home. On the whole situation, Bremen striker, Marvin Ducksch said: “I have never experienced anything like this before, I’ll be honest. His clothes were still on the pitch. At some point in the shower, people came in and said that he had left with his private clothes.”
The behaviour is seen as intolerable and he will likely have his spell at Bremen, which was meant to last until 2026, cut short. Both parties are currently under negotiations for a termination.
This is not the first time that there have been issues with Bremen and Keïta’s conduct, it had previously been reported that some of the players were unhappy with his behaviour as sometimes he would be late to team meetings.
It is safe to say that Keïta’s short spell back in the Bundesliga has been a big failure. His move in the summer was seen as a coup for Bremen if he was able to stay fit, but he hasn’t, and when he has played he has not been convincing. The 29-year-old has only played five times for Bremen with his only start coming in a 3-2 loss to Hoffenheim back in October.
