Kai Havertz scored Germany’s fifth of the night against Hungary in their UEFA Nations League opener in Düsseldorf. The Arsenal forward has become a key player under Julian Nagelsmann, scoring six goals and creating one in 13 games for the national team.

Against Turkey and Austria, Havertz even operated in an unfamiliar position, playing left-wing-back for the national team. But since reverting to a central forward/attacking midfield position, the 25-year-old has established himself as an integral part of the Germany squad.

Speaking after Germany’s 5-0 win against Hungary, Nagelsmann praised Havertz’ development and his importance to the team.

“Kai has made a big leap forward in the last two years,” said Nagelsmann. “He has the potential to be world class in many positions. He runs an incredible amount and has become very clever. He sometimes lacks a bit of finishing luck.

“The co-captaincy is good for him. He is a smart person, very reflective. He is very modest. I hope he continues to believe in himself.”
