Neal Maupay has responded to fans on social media after Everton players were abused at a London train station over the weekend.
Toffees fans were furious with the players after they were… Beaten 4-0 by Tottenham in north London on Saturday.
Sean DycheManchester City have lost both Premier League games this season, conceding seven goals without scoring.
The signs are already pointing to another season of struggle for Everton and the fans made their fury known to the players.
At Euston station, fans were filmed confronting players as they boarded the train.
Maupay found himself on the receiving end of a barrage of vitriolic abuse as players took the risk of boarding the carriages.
The striker appeared to be reacting to chants of “fuck you” from one fan in particular.
Maupay reposted the video on social media, saying: “Imagine any other job where this kind of abuse was normalised. Being in a train station shouting at men who are doing their best…”
Everton are bottom of the Premier League after just two games, with turmoil on and off the pitch.
“It's a strange situation here,” said boss Sean Dyche.
“We build something, and then we have to go down the hill and rebuild it again. What about playing when the score is 0-0?
“We've done well when we've faced challenges. We've done very well. So I reminded them of that afterwards. I reminded them that this is not our first experience.”
“They write us off and then we start to change the story again. It's a never-ending challenge at Everton.”
American businessman John Textor is confident of completing a takeover of Everton after expressing his desire to sell his stake in Crystal Palace.
Textor has a 45 per cent stake in Palace but has been in talks with current Everton owner Farshad Moshiri to take over the Toffees.
The 58-year-old digital media and entertainment entrepreneur has to sell his Palace shares because he cannot invest in two Premier League clubs at the same time.
Textor revealed how he failed in his bid to take majority control at Selhurst Park and, having now turned his attention to Everton, says there have been “strong indications from qualified buyers” to complete a sale of their Palace shares.
The Toffees face Doncaster in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, before hosting Bournemouth at Goodison Park on Saturday.
