Maupay has gone through a disappointing time in Everton after arriving from Brighton in 2022.

He scored just one goal in 29 games in all competitions for the Toffees during the 2022/23 campaign.

He was then loaned to Brentford the following campaign, before being sacked again earlier this year.

The 28-year-old has played regularly with Roberto De Zerbi in France, helping his team to second place in the table.

He has been directly involved in six goals in 11 Ligue 1 games to show Everton what they are missing.

By contrast, Everton are struggling this season as they sit 16th in the Premier League table, just two points above the relegation zone following Sunday's home defeat to Forest, in which they Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White sealed a 2-0 win for them.

And Maupay sought to rub salt in the wounds of Everton fans as he mocked their loss on social media.

Living up to his reputation as a pantomime villain, Maupay joked unknown: “Every time I have a bad day, I just look at Everton's result and smile.”

It's safe to say Everton fans were left furious by his post, with former WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew simply writing: “B****.”

Another X user said: “In our hall of fame is one of the worst players to wear a blue jersey.”

Meanwhile, this fan wrote: “Next time you play Everton they are going to break you. That will take your breath away.”

His comment prompted a response from Maupay, who responded by saying: “See you in the Champions League next season!”

He then followed up by making another joke at Everton's expense.

Correcting his previous post, Maupay simply said: “Championship”, highlighting the relegation battle the Toffees are involved in.

It is not the first time this season that Maupay has drawn the ire of Everton fans.

Before his loan to Marseille, Maupay was on the bench during the club's tough defeats against Brighton and Tottenham.
