New accessibility signage has been fitted at Witton Station thanks in large part to an Aston Villa supporter.
Cameron Wood is a wheelchair user and disability rights campaigner who travels to and from games at Villa Park via train.
Cameron wrote to the club last year to voice his concerns about accessibility at the station on a matchday and a meeting was subsequently arranged with West Midlands Trains.
Following the meeting, new accessibility signage, which can be seen from both ends of the platform by station and onboard staff, was fitted.
The improvements have meant Cameron feels comfortable continuing to travel to future games using the station.
Further upgrades to Witton Station are planned in the long-term, with designs revealed by West Midlands Rail Executive for a proposed revamp in December 2023.
Aston Villa is working closely with WMRE and other partners including Network Rail, Transport for West Midlands, Birmingham City Council and Network Rail to help ensure that the station upgrade is delivered.
*Please note, for European matches we would advise using Aston Station due to the roadblocks and segregation of away supporters. There is lift access at Aston Station, however, if lifts are out of service, there is the option of shuttle buses from the city centre that are wheelchair accessible.
