New European Super League proposal launched after rebrand

A new format of the European Super League has been launched following a rebrand from promoters, as reported by Kicker

Promoters A22 have contacted UEFA and FIFA to seek official recognition for its new competition.

The new version is called the Unify League and would feature 64 clubs around Europe competing in three divisions.

Unlike the European Super League, this version would include promotion and relegation rather than a set number of teams gaining qualification based on past success.

It’s unclear how the project would finance itself and exactly who the donors behind the new format are.

The exact details remain vague as many football fans around Europe start to wonder if people associated with their club are backing the proposal.

A letter addressed to UEFA General Secretary reads:

“This behaviour is incompatible with an organisation that must be open, transparent and free from conflicts of interest at all times.”

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled last December UEFA’s rules to block the Super League were contrary to EU law.

UEFA has yet to comment on A22’s new proposal.
