While the Uruguay international has scored 18 goals in all competitions, 11 of them in the Premier League, there is undoubted talent there, but he has been criticized for not scoring enough.

Talking with Alan Brazil and Gabriel Agbonlahor Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, Lambert said: “I think as a fellow striker I see the potential in him.

“I love him the way he is, if he stays the way he is, I love him. But I can see him being as powerful as Fernando Torres.

“That's where I can see Núñez, we have to continue with him.

“The next coach (Arne Slot) has to take him to the training field and make him repeat the shots, from all angles, with his left foot and with his right foot.

“Within a few months or a year, those opportunities will start to arise. His complete game is already there.

“He can hold up and he can get behind. If a player at the top level can do that, you can't let him go.”

“If we let him go, without a doubt, he will become a world-class player somewhere else.”

Slot will join as Liverpool's next manager this summer to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Jeff Stelling claims it would be an insult to Jurgen Klopp to suggest new Liverpool manager Arne Slot can get the best out of Darwin Nunez.

One of his first tasks will be to harness Núñez's potential and turn him into a world-class striker, something Klopp could have achieved for the former. Benfica star on the way to, but will need to be finished.

But Núñez will have a hard time being mentioned in the same breath as Torres, who was one of the most electric forwards of recent times at Anfield.

El Niño spent four years at Liverpool, where he scored 81 goals in 142 appearances in all competitions, while it was his pace and skill that also terrified defenders.

Torres forged an almost telepathic connection with Steven Gerrardand the two combine most of the time: Gerrard assisted Torres 14 times and Torres assisted Gerrard 10 times.

Slot has proven in Feyenoord He knows how to get the best out of attacking players, with his Dutch team famous for their brilliant forward-thinking style, so Núñez's future could be in the right hands.
