Burnley rejected a £15m offer earlier in the transfer window.

The 21-year-old played 28 times for the Clarets as they were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Trafford missed the first Championship game of the season but returned for Saturday's clash with Sunderland.

Scott Parker's side lost 1-0 at the Stadium of Light.

Trafford was also part of England's Euro 2024 squad before being dropped from Gareth Southgate's final 26-man squad.

Burnley manager Parker was asked about the goalkeeper's future last week and said: “At the moment, he's here. The thing to understand is that speculation is speculation. James is here and James has the shirt, that's why he played.

“To answer your question, is he number one right now? He is.

“But by saying that, he has someone behind him, or two others behind him who will push and try to take that shirt off him.

“What will happen in the future? I don’t know, I can’t answer that. But so far, this is someone who I thought was brilliant on Monday night. He showed his quality again.

“He's another player who had a difficult season last year, but he's an exceptional goalkeeper and he showed all his quality on Monday night.”

Burnley have already seen several players leave this summer, with Wilson Odobert and Sander Berge joining Tottenham and Fulham respectively.

Dara O'Shea and Arijanet Muric have signed for Ipswich, while winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson has headed to the Saudi Pro League.

On the transfer front, Parker said: “It's been a tough week. Some of the changes have been due to injuries, others because some players are leaving because they don't see a future here.”

“I think it will be a very busy week. (The last) week has been extremely busy.

“These are some of the issues facing a club that has just been relegated from the Premier League. I think it will be another busy week and we will have to try and manage it as best we can.

“I have no doubt that some players will leave, but we will also bring some players back.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle could still see Eddie Howe leave the squad.

Kieran Trippier has been linked with a possible exit before Friday's deadline.

Everton are believed to be interested in signing the full-back.
