Newcastle's growing injury crisis has gone from bad to worse with Callum Wilson scheduled for up to three months out, talkSPORT understands.

He 31 years requires surgery to repair his pectoral tendon, which will likely keep him sidelined until early May.

Wilson suffered the problem in magpies' Dramatic 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest last week.

He was forced off late in the match, with the former Bournemouth star seen using his shirt as a makeshift sling.

It's a hard blow for him England international, who will now be in a race against time to get fit if he wants to be included in Gareth Southgate's squad for Euro 2024.

Wilson started the season in good form, having scored seven Premier League goals in his first nine games.

But he has not scored in the top flight since October 28.

The center forward has already undergone surgery and the setback is a hard blow for the coach Eddie Howe.

Newcastle are currently without a host of first-team players with games against the Cherries, Arsenal and an FA Cup fifth-round tie with Blackburn on the horizon.

Alexander Isak remains doubtful with a groin injury.

Although the same cannot be said for midfielder Joelinton or goalkeeper Nick Pope.

However, Joe Willock, Jacob Murphy and Elliot Anderson could grace the field before March arrives.

Speaking ahead of Newcastle's game against Bournemouth, Howe said: “It's certainly a big blow for him.

“It's been a season of stops and starts for him. We hope he returns before the end of the season.

“It was a strange injury. He fought with the center back at the end of the last game.

“We had him scanned and at first we hoped he would be able to continue, but when he went to see a specialist I think it was obvious from the start that he needed to have surgery.”

If Wilson does not feature again this season, it is very possible that he will have played his last game for Newcastle.

He is tied up at St James' Park until 2025, and the player has no shortage of suitors.

talkSPORT revealed how Chelsea and West Ham They were interested in Wilson in January, while he could have interest from Saudi Arabia in the summer.
