Newcastle United make a bid for Barcelona forward

Barcelona have received an offer from Newcastle United for Ferran Torres, who joined the club two and a half years ago from Manchester City. If Barcelona accepts, it will be less than half of what they paid.

According to Jijantes via MD, Newcastle made a low-ball bid of €15 million, plus €5 million in variables for the Valencian forward. Torres initially cost Barcelona €55 million from Manchester City but has struggled to establish himself in the team since. After a good start initially, Torres struggled in front of goal in his first full campaign, and this season he has been impressive when he has had chances, but has battled injury problems.

He has still managed 42 appearances, 11 goals and 4 assists, despite missing big chunks of games, and it seems highly unlikely that Barcelona will accept such a low fee for the 24-year-old. Even with their desperation for funds, and bearing in mind that they are open to selling Torres for the right offer, it would be a big surprise to see them accept so little, while they are preparing for the Euros with Spain.
