Noussair Mazraoui is available to play for Manchester United against Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday, a week after having a heart operation.

Mazraoui came off at half-time in United’s last game before the international break at Aston Villa after complaining of palpitations and underwent a procedure to correct the problem.

But the Morocco defender returned to training this week and manager Erik ten Hag confirmed that he is available to face Brentford.

‘Mazraoui is good news,’ said the United manager. ‘He had an illness but returned to the training pitch and is available for selection tomorrow.’

United’s £17million summer signing from Bayern Munich could go straight back into action with United still facing problems at full-back.

While Mazraoui has started all but one game at right-back this season, Diogo Dalot has been filling in on the left in the prolonged absences of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Both are back in training but Malacia hasn’t played for United since March 2023 and Shaw since April of this year.

It has been United’s problem position for some time and Ten Hag added: ‘Yes, they are back, but we can’t force their return and we have to do it very carefully because we don’t want them to return and quickly drop out.

‘We do it very carefully. We hope to do it as soon as possible because this team needs a left full-back, that is for sure.’
