It has certainly been a busy few months for Borussia Dortmund, who have seen four new signings come through the door while another seven have departed the Westfalenstadion.
As well as this, Edin Terzić, who had guided BvB to the Champions League final last season, has been replaced by a former Dortmund midfielder, Nuri Şahin.
Nevertheless, despite such change occurring for Die Schwarzgelben this summer, there is a positive atmosphere surrounding the club.
One reason as to why there is optimism surrounding the BvB is due to the club’s recruitment so far this summer.
With Waldemar Anton and Serhou Guirassy performing admirably at VfB Stuttgart last season, the Black and Yellows have also been able to find a possible long-term solution to their full-back issues through the capture of Yan Couto from Manchester City.
Pascal Groß is a difference-maker
However, the addition of Pascal Groß could be the key for Dortmund to push on this season.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder has been a consistent performer in the Premier League since arriving from FC Ingolstadt in the summer of 2017.
The German international had become one of the Premier League’s most creative talents while on the Sussex South Coast, and speaking to Sky Germany, Şahin stated that he understood the quality Groß could add to his side:
“I spoke with him on the phone very often. For me, it was important that we get this type of player. I don’t care how old he is. He is a player we didn’t have in the squad.”
Despite his creative and attacking prowess, Groß also provides leadership, composure, and versatility, something that Dortmund undoubtedly do not have in abundance.
While the former Brighton midfielder is edging towards the end of his career, he could still be the difference in BvB mounting a title charge this season, as Die Schwargelben look to lift silverware in front of their own fans for the first time in eight years.
