SportBild (via @bvbnewsblog) reports that new Borussia Dortmund head coach Nuri Sahin is set to give youth players a greater chance under him at the club.
Previously, under predecessor Edin Terzic, youth struggled for game time as he would always rely on the same players, this is now expected to change.
Academy product Kjell Wätjen is expected to be one of those players. The plan is for him to get as many minutes as possible next season. At the back of the past season, the midfield made several impressive cameos for Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
Other candidates are wingers Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Julien Duranville. The pair were not as involved under Terzic and are now expected to get more playing time. However, it is suggested for both players that with this playing time they are expected to make their breakthroughs. Bynoe-Gittens has shown promise when he did play, while Duranville has struggled with injuries since his debut in 2023.
However, one player whose future is currently unknown is striker Youssoufa Moukoko. It has previously been reported that Moukoko wants to stay while Dortmund are not against letting him leave. This stalemate could change under head coach Sahin if he is willing to give the 19 year old a chance, which he deserves as he also showed promise at points last season.
