myxpected Goals is not a new tool for measuring the quality of a scoring opportunity, but WhoScored.com has tried to take the statistic to the next level. Not only is xG now available on WhoScored.com, but they've made it so that users can rank by over or underperforming a player's xG in their respective league.
Here, they encounter an XI of players who are outperforming their xG. These are the players who have scored more of their Expected Goals in the first division this season.
Goalkeeper: N/A
Nick Pope is the only goalkeeper to have had a chance in the Premier League this season, and even that resulted in an xG of 0.04. By not being able to score, Pope is underperforming his xG of 0.04, so this team has no goalkeeper.
Central defender: Cristian Romero (Tottenham)
After his strike at victory over the Crystal PalaceNo defender has scored more goals than Cristian Romero (four) in the Premier League this season. However, the difficulty of the Argentine's chances means he is beating his xG (2.02) by 1.98, a better performance than any other defender in England's top flight.
Central defender: Thiago Silva (Chelsea)
Thiago Silva may struggle to regain his place in the Chelsea squad now that he has returned from injury, but the Brazilian is a goal threat for the Blues. The experienced centre-back has two goals with an xG of 0.4, an outperformance of 1.60.
Central defender: Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth)
Bournemouth will hope Marcos Senesi's hamstring injury suffered at Burnley at the weekend is not too serious. Not only is the Argentine impressing for Andoni Iraola's Cherries, but the centre-back is outperforming in xG of 1.94, meaning that by this metric he should have just one goal rather than three.
Central midfielder: Declan Rice (Arsenal)
Declan Rice has been a revelation for Arsenal after his arrival from West Ham last summer. Rice, signed to shore up the Gunners' midfield, has also added a goal threat. He has already scored five league goals for Mikel Arteta's side, his best in a season, but his xG is just 2.07, with Rice beating him by 2.93.
Central midfielder: Mathias Jensen (Brentford)
Alongside Rice at the base of the midfield, Mathias Jensen has surpassed his xG by 2.54. Jensen has three goals in the league this season, but based on his expected goals total, the 28-year-old should not have managed to score.
Right Wing: Leon Bailey (Aston Villa)
Leon Bailey, one of Aston Villa's latest stars, is finding his feet at Villa Park after a difficult start in England. Bailey has eight goals and eight assists, this despite logging just 1,343 minutes of action. The Jamaican's goals come from an xG of 4.61, with an over performance of 3.39, the third highest in the league.
Attacking midfield: Mohammed Kudus (West Ham)
One of the signings of the season, Mohammed Kudus, has prospered in the Premier League after signing from Ajax. While he took some time to establish himself as a first-team starter under David Moyes, the Ghana international has become one of the first names on the team's roster. Kudus features in this XI having outperformed expected goals at 2.70, with the winger scoring almost double the amount of goals his xG would suggest (3.30).
Attacking midfield: Bernardo Silva (Manchester City)
Similarly, Bernardo Silva, like Kudus, has six league goals to his name, but his superior xG performance of 2.75 means he should, in theory, only have three to his name. The Portuguese international is proving to be another driving force in Manchester City's title fight.
Left Wing: Son Heung-Min (Tottenham)
A league tally of 13 goals is the sixth-best tally in the Premier League this season, with Son Heung-Min taking on the scoring load following the departure of Harry Kane. However, according to WhoScored.com's expected goals method, Son should have only eight goals in the league. With a flair for the spectacular, the South Korean star is beating his xG by 4.76 – the biggest positive difference in the Premier League.
Forward: Jarrod Bowen (West Ham)
Another West Ham player leads the charge. Jarrod Bowen has scored 14 goals in the Premier League this season, but an xG of 10.43 means his outperformance is 3.57, second only to Son.
