Europa League champions Atalanta have today announced the signing of Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
The Ivorian was an unused substitute when the two teams played each other in the 2024 Europa League final, of which Atalanta cruised to a 3-0 win in Dublin.
But regardless, Kossounou had an outstanding season. A Bundesliga and DFB Pokal winner with Bayer Leverkusen, the 23-year-old also lifted the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast.
As reported by Kicker, Bayer Leverkusen will receive €5.5m from Atalanta for the loan signing of Kossounou and a further €25m should the Italian side activate their purchase option on the defender.
During his time in Germany since his move from Club Brugge in July 2021, Kossounou played 102 games across all competitions.
And it’s one in one out at the BayArena. The Bundesliga side have completed the signing of French defender Nordi Mukiele on loan from Paris Saint-Germain as a replacement for Kossounou.
